Head of Marketing

First marketing hire. Build the function from zero — brand, demand, pipeline, positioning. Take Tailor from "great product, growing buzz" to a category-defining name in GovTech B2B SaaS.

About Tailor

Tailor builds document collaboration software for teams that need reviews, approvals, evidence, ownership changes, and decision history to stay connected in one product.

The product is live across local government, construction, and mining; in pilot with a major state-government department; and being rolled out with a tier-1 systems integrator.

We're small, fast, and just getting started. The product is real, the customers are real, and the opportunity in front of us is enormous.

The Role

We're hiring our first Head of Marketing — a builder, a brand-shaper, and a growth operator who can take Tailor from a strong product with early traction to a category-defining name in B2B SaaS for government and regulated industries.

This isn't a role where you inherit someone else's playbook. You'll write ours. You'll own marketing strategy, brand, demand generation, content, product marketing, and the broader GTM motion alongside the Founding AE. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with the founders, sales, and product — and you'll have the autonomy (and accountability) to make the calls that matter.

You're data-driven by default. You use modern AI tooling — research, content production, campaign analytics, customer signal — to do the work of a much larger team. You measure marketing by what it produces, not what it produces in slides.

If you've been waiting for the role where you can finally build the marketing function the way you've always wanted to, this is it.

What You Will Do

  • Own end-to-end go-to-market strategy — ICP definition, positioning, pipeline targets, expansion motion
  • Define how Tailor sounds, looks, and shows up in the market — brand, voice, visual identity
  • Run demand generation across the channels that actually work for GovTech B2B SaaS — paid, organic, ABM, partnerships, events, lifecycle
  • Build content and thought leadership that puts Tailor's voice into the AI and GovTech conversations that matter
  • Own product marketing — positioning, messaging, launches, sales enablement, customer references
  • Set up and run the marketing tech stack, attribution model, and reporting cadence to the founders and board
  • Hire and scale the marketing function as we grow

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years in B2B SaaS marketing, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership or founding-marketer role
  • Real track record of building pipeline and brand from early-stage through scale
  • Data-driven by default. Fluent in funnel metrics, attribution, CAC, LTV, and pipeline conversion. You settle debates with numbers, not vibes
  • AI-native operator. You use modern AI tooling — Claude, ChatGPT, perplexity, marketing-AI platforms — as daily drivers to do the work of a much larger team. You have opinions on where AI accelerates marketing and where it produces noise
  • Strong product instincts. You've worked closely with product teams and can sell the why, not just the what
  • Sharp writing. Clear, persuasive, and with a point of view. You can write a launch that gets shared and a positioning doc that survives sales scrutiny
  • GovTech / regulated industry literacy. You understand how to market to government, regulated industries, or other slow-moving buyers — and you know procurement is not a marketing problem you can solve, but it is one you have to respect
  • Range as a communicator. You can talk to a director-general, a developer, and a founder in the same week — sometimes the same day
  • Brisbane-based, or willing to be. Most of the work is in-room with the team and customers

Bonus Points

  • Experience marketing AI, dev tools, or document/workflow software
  • Prior Australian GovTech / RegTech marketing experience
  • Built a brand from scratch — not just inherited one
  • Has run an ABM motion into named government accounts

Why Tailor

  • First in seat. This is a foundational role. The marketing function is yours to shape
  • Direct line to founders. No layers between you and the decisions that matter
  • A product worth marketing. We don't need spin. We need someone who can do the product justice
  • Speed. Decisions get made in hours, not weeks
  • Work that matters. Tailor is making decisions traceable in places where decisions matter — capital programmes, planning, procurement, ministerial briefs
  • Opportunity for equity in the business for the right person
